Food as a Vehicle for Education

Food has a unique and daily role in human life. Preparing and eating food not only satisfies our basic needs, but is an expression of our culture and a means of caring for our community. Children are naturally driven to participate in food preparation - it engages all their senses and allows them to emulate the skills of adults. Whether at home or in the classroom, providing food preparation experiences to children is an empowering process that supports their independence and self-confidence. In this workshop, AMI Primary trainer, Jack Yu will examine food through a developmental lens and explore how we can incorporate it into the culture of our classrooms, including traditional holiday foods and seasonal produce. Your children will be delighted to scrub, peel, chop, stir, and bake in service of their classroom community
